Rillwork: End-User Licence Agreement
DRAFT — not legal advice. Plain English. Have a lawyer review it before it is published or relied on, especially before paid licences start.
Last updated: 24 October 2026
This licence is between you and Jake Cadwell, postal address to be added (PO box being set up) ("we"). It covers the Rillwork app at https://rillwork.com/app/ and any copy of it you load or keep ("the Software"). The Terms of Use (TERMS.md) and the Engineering Disclaimer (ENGINEERING-DISCLAIMER.md) also apply.
1. Beta licence (now)
During the public beta we give you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Software:
- for any lawful purpose, including paid professional work for clients;
- for as many models as you like, of any size;
- on as many of your own devices as you like.
This beta licence ends when the beta ends. Before then, we will give notice (see TERMS.md, section 3).
2. Paid licence (planned, after the beta)
We plan to sell a per-user annual licence, currently expected at $490 per user per year, with no limits on model size. When paid licences start:
- the Software may ask for a licence key, which it checks on your own device, without sending your models anywhere;
- each paid licence is for one named person, who may use it on their own devices;
- separate purchase terms (price, renewal, refunds, taxes) will be shown before you buy, and this EULA will be updated.
The planned price is not an offer and may change. Nothing in the beta obliges you to buy.
3. What you may not do
You may not:
- sell, rent or sublicense the Software itself, or offer it as a hosted service to others;
- remove or change copyright, licence or engine-version notices, including the engine statement in reports;
- get around any licence-key check once paid licences start;
- use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse your work.
4. Third-party and public-domain parts
- EPA SWMM 5.2.4 is public-domain software from the US Environmental Protection Agency. This licence does not restrict your rights in EPA SWMM itself, which you can get from EPA.
- Other components are under their own open-source licences, listed in the app's licence notice (LICENSES.md). Those licences apply to those parts.
5. Your files
Your models, results and reports belong to you. The Software processes them on your device and does not send them to us (see PRIVACY.md).
6. Updates
The Software is delivered from the web, so you may get updates when you reload it. Updates may add, change or remove features.
The files you save are standard SWMM 5 .inp files, which you can open in EPA's own program. Your work does not depend on Rillwork staying available.
7. No warranty
The Software is provided "as is", with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. This includes merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. Results must be checked by a qualified engineer (see ENGINEERING-DISCLAIMER.md).
8. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss;
- our total liability under this licence is limited to the greater of USD 100 and the amount you paid us for the Software in the 12 months before the claim (nothing during the free beta).
9. Ending the licence
- This licence ends automatically if you break it.
- You may end it at any time by no longer using the Software.
- Sections 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10 continue after it ends.
10. Law
This licence is governed by the laws of the State of Nevada. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Nevada, unless the law where you live gives you another right.
11. Export
You agree not to use or export the Software in breach of applicable export-control or sanctions laws.
